Choral
Evensong at St. Michael's
At St. Michael
and All Angels church we are lucky enough to have a robed choir.
The church choir
faithfully leads the singing at the church services week by week. As well as singing the Hymns and Service
setting they often sing an anthem whilst Communion is being distributed. They typically practise on every 2nd
Wednesdays at 8pm although there are some variations as shown below, or check here
for this week. The choir sings two services (Parish Mass and
Evensong) on most Sundays. Once a month
(on the third Sunday) they are joined by singers from other nearby choirs to
sing a ‘Cathedral Style’ Evensong typically including an introit and anthem as
well as singing the Psalm and Canticles and four hymns, (see below for dates).
The choir embraces a
wide variety of church music - some old, some new. Larger choral works are also sung, these have
included Stainer's Crucifixion, Maunder's
Olivet to Calvary, Faure's Requiem, Gounod's St Cecelia Mass, and Haydn's Creation again with a choir augmented by
other local singers.
Anyone interested in
joining the choir, (either regularly or for the monthly Choral Evensongs), and
are reasonable singers are very welcome to join - please contact the Organist
and Director of Music, Michael Macey at church on a Sunday or during one of the
choir practices on a Wednesday evening.
Dates for 2020
practices (all Wednesdays 20:00 to 21:15 unless stated otherwise)
